William E. Padgett

William E. PadgettWilliam E. Padgett is a partner in the Litigation Department in the Indianapolis office of Barnes & Thornburg LLP. He has had a broad-based litigation practice, representing clients in matters involving product liability and toxic torts, premises liability, insurance coverage and procurement claims, and a variety of commercial claims. 
 
Mr. Padgett leads or assists several national defense counsel teams defending chemical, pesticide and other product manufacturers in toxic tort, products liability and commercial litigation throughout the United States.  He also has broad experience with the economic loss doctrine and various warranty defenses as part of his commercial litigation practice, and also works with Barnes & Thornburg’s Environmental Department in litigation matters. Finally, Mr. Padgett often advises clients on business practices intended to avoid products liability and commercial claims, including in the areas of occupational health and safety, product advertising, and warranty practices. 
 
He is admitted to practice before the Indiana Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit and the United States District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.
 
Mr. Padgett received his B.A. magna cum laude in 1992 from Wabash College and Juris Doctorate cum laude in 1995 from Indiana University - Bloomington, where he was articles editor of the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies.
 
Mr. Padgett serves as treasurer of the board of directors and on the Development Committee for The Julian Center and handles pro bono family law cases for victims of domestic violence.
