Your $15,000 will provide emergency cab fare for a year to transport women and their children to safety as they flee abusive situations; your investment will also provide fares to transport women and children to and from local hospitals for medical treatment and ongoing care.

Your $10,000 will help provide legal services for victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault from our Legal Clinic staffed by two part-time lawyers. Our attorneys provide legal advice, information, assistance with pro se forms, and where available, referrals to other legal service programs. They also provide legal representation for cases including child custody, child support, legal separation, divorce, paternity, bankruptcy, and legal issues related to Orders of Protection.

  • Even though more than 85% of the women who enter The Julian Center Shelter report incomes of $15,000 or below, it is the income of their husbands which often disqualify them from receiving legal aid from other community based organizations.

  • 1 in 12 women are stalked at least once in their lifetime.

  • Almost 21,000 Marion County women are physically abused in domestic relationships each year.

  • Access to Legal Services by domestic violence victims has been determined to be the only public service that matters in predicting long-term rates of domestic violence.

  Investment

Your $5,000 will help fund the 24 hour crisis call line and Crisis Call Desk. The Crisis Desk is the first point of contact for many victims calling for help. Workers first instruct callers to try to get to a public building such as a store, a gas station, or some neutral location, and then dispatch cabs to bring them to safety. Once on site, crisis call managers help them determine their immediate needs and provide a meal, clothing, personal care items, linens, and address other personal and/or medical needs. The client is then given an orientation and provided a secure and comfortable bedroom.

  • 61% of female homicide victims are killed by their husband or an intimate acquaintance.

  • The Julian Center receives more than 6,000 crisis calls
    each year and makes more than 10,000 referrals to other community based organizations.

  • Domestic violence victims often return to their batterers when a viable option for permanent housing cannot be found.

  • Women call The Julian Center seeking emergency shelter, referrals and basic domestic violence information.

Your $2,500 will provide the following for a week for the women and children of The Julian Center:

1) Three hot meals and an evening snack

2) Daily prepared sack lunches and dinners for women to take to work

3) Supplies for the cafeteria kitchenette so women and children may have free access to milk, juices, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit, bread, peanut butter, and other drink and snack items 24 hours per day.

 

 


DID YOU KNOW ...

  • Almost 76,000 meals are prepared and served at The Julian Center per year.

  • More than 160 gallons of milk is consumed each month and 40 gallons of 100% apple and orange juice is consumed each week by the women and children housed at The Julian Center.

  • Because of the increase in transportation cost, the cost of items such as milk, fruits, and fresh produce, has increased 15% over the last year.
