Accepting Donations
Numerous material donations come into The Julian Center everyday. Volunteers are needed to greet donors and help accept their gifts.
Availability: Volunteers are needed between 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. - 6 p.m., Monday - Friday.
Children Services
Tutoring
Tutors help provide a safe environment in which youth of all ages affected by domestic violence can learn. Many of these children struggle academically making tutors essential in helping them bridge the gap between them and their peers.
Availability: Thursdays 6 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Mentoring
Mentors at The Julian Center provide a safe and welcoming environment in which youth can interact with positive role models and their peers. This program is just as much about academic advancement as it is about building healthy relationships.
Availability: Mondays 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Childcare
Women at The Julian Center are offered group counseling and support groups to aid in their transition from abuse to independent living. During these times, their children must be supervised.
Availability: Mondays 1 p.m. - 2 p.m., Tuesdays 12:30 - 1:30 p.m., Wednesdays 1 p.m. - 2 p.m., Thursdays 6 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Facilities
Gardening
The Julian Center offers residents two gardens in which to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Regular upkeep of these spaces is important so that they remain inviting and refreshing.
Availability: Hours are flexible between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday -Thursday.
Organizing Storage Closets
The Julian Center receives donations of food, linens, toys, and hygienic items on a regular basis. In order to effectively distribute these items to residents and outreach clients, the store rooms must be kept organized. Storage Room Facilitators help keep these rooms in good order.

Grant Writing
A large portion of The Julian Center’s funding comes from governmental and nongovernmental grants. In order to secure these grants, well written grant proposals must be submitted. At least 10 - 15 hours are needed to complete a given grant proposal or application, however the specific amount of time depends on the particular assignment.

Outreach
Speakers' Bureau
Volunteers act as representatives for The Julian Center at various functions and events in the community. These volunteers may be asked to speak or handout information at churches, business, schools, or other organizations.

Adopt-A-Family
Each year, The Julian Center tries to make the holiday season as joyful as possible for the women and children in our Shelter. With your help, gifts are provided to families who might otherwise go without.

Thrifty Threads
Individual Opportunities
Thrifty Threads offers clothing, accessories, and household items donated by members of the community to the women and children served by The Julian Center free-of-charge. Members of the public may also purchase items from the thrift store with all of the proceeds going directly to The Julian Center. Volunteers help to sort, organize and complete other tasks at the store.
Availability: Volunteers are needed between 10:30 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday - Saturday. Please call the store at 802-9612 to schedule a time to volunteer.
Group Opportunities
Availability: Groups of 10 or less are welcome to volunteer Saturdays between 1 – 5 p.m. Please call the store at 802-9612 to schedule a time to volunteer.
Women Services
Circles® of Support
This is an opportunity to work with survivors of domestic violence who are trying to escape the generational cycle of poverty.

Employment Help
Volunteers work one-on-one with clients as they write and improve resumes, search and apply for jobs and study for classes or their GED. This position allows volunteers to provide our clients with tangible skills that can help them gain independence and self-sufficiency.

Teaching Classes
Volunteers are needed who are well versed in any kind of life skill that could be useful to the women and would be willing to teach a short course or tutor a woman one-on-one. Life skills might include: financial planning, budgeting, scheduling/using calendars, nutrition for children, parenting skills, cooking, and job search skills.

Group Opportunities
Sponsor a Children’s Program
Groups of volunteers are welcome to come in on the weekend and sponsor a children’s program which includes games, crafts, activities and snacks.
Availability: Programs are held on Saturdays from 1 - 3 p.m.
Serve a Meal
Prepare and serve a meal with your friends, family or organization! Meals are served to students in our "Getting Ahead" class which is a part of our new Circles® of Support initiative.
Availability: Meals must be ready to serve by 5:30 p.m. on Thursday evenings.
