Individual Therapy

What is individual therapy?

Individual therapy is a process of self-exploration and understanding where sessions are facilitated by a specially trained mental health clinician.  The purpose of individual therapy is to provide you with a safe environment in which you can come to better understand and examine various aspects of your life and learn how to build new and healthier relationships.

How will talking help me?

Communication is key to your recovery.  Whether the trauma you experienced happened yesterday or years ago, you can heal and learn to move on.  One-on-one sessions with your therapist helps you develop the therapeutic relationship you need to talk about difficult feelings, thoughts, and situations – and be assured that the personal things you share are held in confidence.  By talking, you will be able to process what you have been through and gain a better understanding of yourself, others, and situations you’ve incurred.

How will therapy benefit me?

Here are a few positive outcomes
you may experience:

  • Learning more adaptive coping skills
  • Resolving inner conflicts or dysfunctional thinking
  • Learning to express and tolerate feelings
  • Developing problem-solving skills
  • Promoting cognitive and emotional development
  • Improving the ability to relate to others and develop healthy relationships

The scars of
domestic violence
and sexual assault run deep.
The trauma of that which
victims experience can
stay with them
long after escaping the
relationship.  It can leave
 them feeling numb, disconnected
and unable to trust
other people.

Individual therapy
can help.
