Mission
The Julian Center is a nonprofit agency providing counseling,
safe shelter, and education for survivors
of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other life crises. Through outreach and consultation,
we also seek to educate the community about the issue of domestic
violence and its impact on all our lives.
Our programs and services are designed to contribute to a significant
reduction in the incidence of violence against women and their
children, to support survivors in healing, and to help break the
intergenerational cycle of abuse.
History
A United Way agency, The Julian Center was founded by one of
the first women Episcopal priests with grants from Lilly Endowment
and the Episcopal Diocese. Since 1975, women have chosen The Julian
Center as a source of strength and a place of refuge in dealing
with life's challenges. The Counseling Center continues to specialize
in trauma therapy for women and children victims of abuse and
assault. Since 1982, women have turned to The Julian Center's
24-hour Shelter to escape abusive relationships and find safety
for themselves and their children.
Governance
A 14-member Board of Directors governs The Julian Center. The
Executive Director is Ann M. DeLaney, Esq.
Clients Served
The Shelter provides housing for more than 1,100 women and
children annually,
while more than 600 women and children participate in therapy at the Counseling
Center.
