The Counseling Center offers therapeutic counseling to women and female adolescents experiencing life difficulties, especially those who are survivors of abuse and assault. Our staff also treats children whose mothers are clients at the Counseling Center and Shelter. While our clients come from all types of backgrounds and levels of income, all are seeking support in the healing process. To assist them in this process, we provide individual and group psychotherapy and education.

To help make counseling affordable for everyone, we accept most insurance and Medicaid. All fee-for-service is based on a sliding scale.

Treatment Philosophy

Whatever a woman's needs may be, she can share her thoughts and feelings with a skilled, licensed mental health professional at our Counseling Center. The experience of trauma in women's lives often leaves them overwhelmed by feelings of isolation, distrust, anger, guilt, depression, and loss. Our treatment programs range from short-term counseling for victims of sexual assault to longer-term therapy, proven necessary and effective for many trauma survivors, in order to rebuild self esteem and enhance personal effectiveness. In all cases, women will find a staff they can trust with the expertise to help them understand their many feelings, to offer information, and to instill hope.

Treatment Effectiveness

Our staff has developed a reputation for providing quality trauma therapy to both adult and child survivors. Other professionals, including social workers, doctors, and hospitals, refer nearly 50 percent of the Counseling Center clientele.

This long-standing reputation for quality care is supported by recent research on the effectiveness of our counseling services. Using a psychotherapy outcome assessment independently monitored by research staff at the University of Evansville, clients commonly report improved self esteem and a reduction in psychological suffering and symptoms after completing individual or group counseling at The Julian Center.
