Contributing to The Julian Center through a gift from your estate
can provide tax benefits for your loved ones and support our efforts
to provide shelter and counseling to women and children who are
victims of domestic violence in our community. Gifts can be made
in the form of bequests, securities or stocks, life insurance,
and retirement plan assets.
Bequests
A bequest is one of the simplest ways to assist victims of domestic
violence by naming The Julian Center in your will. The bequest
can be an exact dollar amount, an asset, or a percentage of or
the residue of your estate. A charitable bequest can reduce capital
gains taxes, protect your estate from excessive taxes, and leave
a legacy to the community.
Sample wording for bequests to The Julian Center
I hereby give and bequeath the sum of $10,000 to The Julian Center.
I hereby give and bequeath 3,000 shares of General Motors stock
to The Julian Center.
I hereby give, bequeath, and devise all of the rest, residue,
and remainder of my estate to The Julian Center.
I hereby give, bequeath, and devise my residuary estate as follows:
10% to the Leukemia Society, 25% to Third Presbyterian Church,
25% to Butler University, and 40% to The Julian Center.
Life Insurance
Individuals can donate a life insurance policy they no longer
need by naming The Julian Center as both the owner and beneficiary
of the policy.
Retirement Plan
Assets, IRAs and employee pension plans with appreciated plan
balances can pose significant tax problems for heirs, particularly
children. Consider using all or part of these assets as a charitable
gift to The Julian Center. Allocating a gift of retirement plan
assets can be as simple as changing the designation on a beneficiary
form with your company or employer.
Gifts of Stock
Contributing appreciated securities now or in your estate can
avoid capital gains taxes, reduce estate taxes, as well as allow
you to make a significant gift to The Julian Center. Your broker
may transfer securities and you will receive credit for the full
market value on the day of transfer.
