In Memory – Carlene Richardson

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Carlene Richardson. Carlene worked at The Julian Center from 1981 to 2011. She was the first shelter director at both our previous hidden location and the our current location on Meridian Street. Carlene worked in our emergency shelter for 20 years before launching The Julian Center’s first community relations programs aimed at raising awareness and educating our community about domestic violence.

Carlene worked tirelessly on behalf of survivors throughout our city and her work was recognized by a mayoral proclamation. She was a driving force behind the creation of our current campus and improving services for survivors in Indianapolis. She was a warrior for those in need and a beacon of light for those lost in the darkness of trauma and violence. She will be missed by those who knew her but her legacy of hope and love will live on.
