Game history
In april 2014, indianapolis police officer Kimberlee Carmack tragically lost her life at the hands of her ex-husband after six years of physical and sexual violence. The tragedy struck the entire police department with much grief and shock. Officer Sydney McDaniel, officer Rodney White JR., and Nicole White then mobilized in her honor—and in recognition of all women, children and men who suffer such violence. Thus was born the competitive game of hoops & heroes to benefit The Julian Center which, like the first responders who play in the game, is saving lives in indianapolis.

Competition with a cause
The annual hardcourt showdown between the Indianapolis Fire Department (IFD) and Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) is a contest of world champion athletes battling for bragging rights. If the pros aren’t playing, you can bet this is the hottest game in town.

Together these players have traveled the globe, representing Indy’s finest by winning national and world championships. For this one afternoon, they compete to honor their own squadrons and an even greater good: recognizing and supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Two teams. Two halves. One game. One cause. The ultimate prize – bragging rights.
