Reports to:                         Director of Survivor Services/Survivor Services Manager

 

 Position Summary

The Bilingual Survivor Services Advocate is responsible for providing collaborative support in the form of assessments, referrals and advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking, in accordance to best practices for Rape Crisis Center designees. As a member of the advocacy team, they will co-lead house meetings, ensure that community resources are up-to-date, and assist in care coordination of survivors. In addition, all advocates participate in community education and outreach efforts.

 

Responsibilities 

  • Participate in therapeutic engagement with survivors
  • Provide collaborative advocacy services address immediate and enhance long-term safety (i.e. Protective Orders, safety planning, necessary referrals)
  • Collaborate with individual survivors to help them create a Personal Growth Plan with measurable and achievable goals for self-sufficiency/life mastery, stability and quality of life
  • Create and maintain survivor records to ensure data quality, including needs assessment, personal growth plan, routine progress notation, collateral information and records, correspondence, etc. in a timely manner
  • Coordinate referrals within Julian Center and to external resources as needed
  • Promote survivor-centered and strength-based approach
  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, all-staff meetings, in-service trainings and staff development projects
  • Assist with facilitation of and attend community outreach and education events, community meetings and trainings, as requested
  • Maintain grant compliance through data entry and report preparation
  • Serve on a 24-hour on-call schedule on a rotating basis with advocate team, including responding to hospitals when called by Centers of Hope to serve survivors
  • Co-lead house meetings
  • Assist in training and onboarding of interns and advocates, as requested
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Fluency in Spanish
  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology or related field (experience may be substituted for degree in certain circumstances)
  • At least 2 years of experience in advocacy with survivors domestic violence
  • Desire to work with clients using a strength-based, empowerment approach
  • Understanding, experience and sensitivity in working with survivors who have experienced trauma, homelessness and the related psychosocial issues
  • Strong cultural competence, including ability to interact successfully with a diverse population
  • Knowledge of Indiana social services, benefits and programs
  • Experience with outcome-based program evaluation
  • Commitment to a nonviolent and collaborative work environment

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Grant Writing/Reporting Experience
  • Knowledge of addictions and recovery programs
  • Experience with Efforts To Outcomes or comparable data tracking system
