Position Summary

Responsible for cashiering, receiving, staging, sorting, cleaning and hanging miscellaneous donated merchandise. Must interact courteously with the public.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts donations, sorts, stacks and moves materials
  • Prices merchandise according to guidelines
  • Manages cash register and assists customers at check-out
  • Assist customers with sales and vouchers
  • Assists with maintaining the physical appearance of the store including windows, floors, restrooms, stockroom and merchandise selling floor
  • Assist volunteers, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, preferred
  • 1-3 years retail or customer service experience, preferred
  • General math skills required
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control
  • Must possess ability to lift 20-30 pounds
  • Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds overhead

Job Description:               Customer Service/Delivery Associate at Thrifty Threads

Status:                                  Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Reports to:                         Director of Retail Services

Position Summary

Primarily responsible for delivery and pick-up of furniture and donation items made to Thrifty Threads, as well as assist in the unloading and preparation of furniture at the store location.  Other duties may include cashiering, receiving, staging, sorting, cleaning and hanging miscellaneous donated merchandise. Must interact courteously with the public.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Loading, delivery and set-up of donated items such as furniture
  • Accepts donations, sorts, stacks and moves materials
  • Prices merchandise according to guidelines and stocks
  • Manages cash register and assists customers at check-out, as needed
  • Assists customers with sales and vouchers
  • Assists with maintaining the physical appearance of the store including windows, floors, restrooms, stockroom and merchandise selling floor
  • Assists and schedules volunteers as needed
  • Communicates any issues regarding delivery, or vehicle to the Director of Retail Services both verbally and/or written form as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • General math skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Clean driving record
  • Must possess ability to lift, pull and push 50+ pounds, reach above head height, stand, walk, kneel, bend and reach
  • Must be able to lift at least 10lbs overhead
  • Superior customer service abilities
  • 1-3 years experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Retail or customer service experience preferred
  • Delivery and or moving experience preferred

Job Description:              Volunteer Coordinator

Status:                               Full-Time/Exempt

Reports To:                       Director of Development

Position Summary:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a plan to maximize community wide engagement with the work and mission of The Julian Center.  The Coordinator serves as the first point of contact for individuals and groups interested in serving as ambassadors/volunteers on behalf of The Julian Center and for Julian Center staff/ board members who wish to serve as volunteers in the community, including participation in community outreach events.  The Coordinator has responsibility to seek out, coordinate and supervise implementation of opportunities for The Julian Center in an effort to provide in-person and online training/education for entities throughout our community.  As such, the Coordinator must be passionate about working with people and be exceptionally skilled in proactively managing training, community projects and volunteers for both individuals and groups.  The Volunteer Coordinator helps connect people’s passion for service, skills and experience with opportunities to serve survivors of domestic and sexual violence; and further offers opportunities for future engagement of financial donors.

Primary Responsibilities:

Volunteer Services Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with program staff leaders to determine where volunteers can be used effectively and efficiently.
  • Evaluate agency needs for volunteer service as well as community need for volunteer service               from agency staff and Board of Directors.
  • Develop volunteer program goals, achievement standards, and recognition program.
  • Recruit, interview, train and evaluate selected volunteers.
  • Track volunteer hours in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Explore and facilitate volunteer opportunities for Julian Center staff and board members.
  • Coordinate task-specific volunteer activities at The Julian Center shelter, administrative offices and Thrifty Threads to ensure a positive experience for residents, volunteers and staff.
  • Coordinate volunteer communications including newsletter articles and social media content.
  • Maintain volunteer files and database, record and report all volunteer service hours.
  • Track court-ordered community service volunteer time.
  • Manage the Adopt-a-Family Program.
  • Collaborate with the Development Manager to facilitate volunteer donation solicitation.
  • Report activities to Director of Development and Communications.
  • Facilitate United Way program for volunteer service.

Community Outreach Responsibilities

  • Explore and respond to opportunities for The Julian Center participation in community activities         including tabling events and speaking engagements. Assess the value of each opportunity to The Julian Center before accepting.
  • Coordinate with event sponsors to understand and meet event expectations. This includes          working with all third-party fundraisers assisting with events put on by another organization.
  • Coordinate staff and volunteer participation in community events.
  • Conduct individual and group tours of The Julian Center campus and Thrifty Threads as needed.         Follow through to assure guest/visitors or volunteers get a positive experience.
  • Manage The Julian Center participation in special community events.
  • Receive and ensure appropriate response to all community engagement calls and email.
  • Assist with donor drives, which may also include pick up facilitation and coordination with shelter staff.

Training Responsibilities

  • With appropriate input, establish topics and a training calendar for all training.
    • Work with Director of Programs regarding all internal training.
    • Track external training that is tied to grants.
    • Ensure appropriate credentials; background checks for all volunteers.
  • Work with staff and community partners to engage trainers most qualified and/or certified on specific issues or topics.
  • Ensure that training materials are current and available.
  • With appropriate input, establish tracking mechanism to assure The Julian Center has certified trainers as needed and that training evaluation forms are tracked for quality assurance

Required Qualifications:

  • Two years of college or equivalent business, technical or specialized schooling.
  • At least 1-3 years of experience
    • Prior volunteer management experience
    • Paid or volunteer leadership roles
  • Competency in using Raisers Edge and Volgistics volunteer management software

Job Description:              Survivor Services Advocate

Status:                               Full-Time/Exempt

Reports To:                       Survivor Advocacy Manager

Position Summary

The Survivor Services Advocate is responsible for providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and services to meet the immediate needs of victims and survivors of domestic and sexual violence who reside in our emergency shelter. In addition, this position facilitates and participates in community education and outreach efforts. The Advocate also coordinates with local law enforcement, Marion County Prosecutor’s Office (MCPO), Centers of Hope, and other community partners on various community and policing initiatives related to serving survivors and systems advocacy.

This is a grant funded position.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assists survivors with immediate needs pertaining to safety, well-being, and basic necessities
  • Identifies and provides appropriate referrals for survivors
  • Writes and files protective order petitions on behalf of survivors
  • Manages internal and external referrals from The Julian Center crisis line, local and law enforcement, and other community partners
  • Assists with facilitation of and attends community outreach and education events, community meetings and trainings, as requested
  • Participates in supervision, team meetings, all-staff meetings, in-service trainings, and staff development projects
  • Works with the Survivor Advocacy Manager to maintain and enhance the agency’s relationship with law enforcement and community allies, as well as the services provided to clients
  • Maintains grant compliance through data entry and report preparation
  • Provides back up support to our 24/7 crisis desk and be on-call for advocacy services, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Skills Needed

  • Trauma informed care, client focuses, rules reduction knowledge
  • Computer skills should include working knowledge of MS Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook as well as data entry skills and completing case notes in the DAP or SOAP format
  • Abilities in developing interpersonal relationships, communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution
  • Capacity to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to multi-task and be adaptable in an ever-changing environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work as a member of a team
  • Desire to work with clients using a strength-based, empowerment approach
  • Understanding, experience, and sensitivity in working with survivors who have experienced trauma, homelessness, and the related psychosocial issues
  • Knowledge of Indiana social services, benefits, and programs
  • Commitment to quality and equitable treatment and service provision to all colleagues and survivors regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender expression, religion, age, or sexual orientation
  • Commitment to non-violent and cooperative work environment
  • Experience with outcome-based program evaluation
  • Ability to pass an enhanced criminal background check

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, sociology or related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in direct service in a social service profession working with traumatized populations
  • Field practicums and internships may be considered for experience
  • Experience in writing case notes in the SOAP or DAP format.
  • Valid driver’s license

Position Summary

The Kitchen Aide is responsible for preparing and serving food items as well as maintaining sanitary kitchen and dining facilities.  The Kitchen Aide requires the ability work with minimal supervision in a team environment.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Prepares meals and assists in the preparation of meals using established policies & procedures.
  • Assures menu items are prepared in sufficient quantities to satisfy volumes.
  • Arranges food and beverage items (e.g. placing in steam tables, a la carte trays, salad bars, filling racks, mobile carts, etc.) for the purpose of making items available to clients and staff.
  • Provides services to clients and employees in a friendly and efficient manner.
  • Serves food in proper pre-determined portion sizes.
  • Serves food that is the correct serving temperature and quality. Any substandard quality food must be brought to the attention of the food and nutrition manager and properly discarded.
  • Inspects food items, work areas, etc. (e.g. personal hygiene, proper food temperatures, etc.) for the purpose of preventing cross contamination and food borne illnesses.
  • Cleans utensils, equipment, and the storage, food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions to include dishwashing, sweeping, mopping, etc.
  • Maintains appearance of all equipment and serving counters.
  • Loads carts, food warmers, trays, etc. for the purpose of ensuring that food and/or beverage items are available for transporting to other areas (by assignment).
  • Receives deliveries from outside vendors.
  • Follows all standards established by the Board of Health, as well as the CACFP provider.
  • Attends all mandatory trainings to include the satisfactory completion of the Serve Safe Training for Food Service.
  • Assists with the training of new employees as needed.
  • Uses proper body mechanics and cleaning procedures for the purpose of preventing accidental injuries to self and others.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Commitment to providing quality and service to all clients regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, religion, age or sexual orientation
  • At least 1 year of food service experience
