Job Description:              Facilities Team Assistant I

Status:                               Full-Time/Non-Exempt

Reports To:                       Director of Facilities Management

Position Summary

The Facilities Team Assistant I position, under limited supervision, performs routine work in support of the Facilities Team to include pantry deliveries, maintenance of the grounds, and minor maintenance duties including but not limited to plumbing, electrical, carpentry and light custodial as needed.  The Facilities Team Assistant I will serve as the face of The Julian Center (TJC) to our donors and other agencies while making pick-ups throughout the Indianapolis area.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Transports food pantry donations to the facility from various off-site donors
  • Delivers donations, furniture, food items or miscellaneous office supplies between TJC locations
  • Complies with all applicable laws regulating safe driving, and TJC policies and procedures
  • Ensure any accident or injury is promptly reported
  • Maintains a safe driving record and appropriate driver’s license classification while operating company vehicles
  • Assists with loading and unloading of donations, utilizing proper lifting techniques and the appropriate tools and equipment provided, asking for assistance when needed
  • Reviews scheduled pick-ups and deliveries to ensure vehicle is equipped with needed supplies and receipts
  • Represents TJC by cultivating positive relationships with donors, staff and volunteers while making pickups and deliveries
  • Regularly inspect and maintains vehicle (i.e. gas, oil, water, tires, etc.) and vehicle maintenance logs/records to ensure vehicle is kept in proper working condition.
  • Maintains a clean vehicle appropriate for food donation
  • Reports any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles to supervisor
  • Works closely with contractors on projects
  • Orders supplies in absence of Director of Operations, as needed

Other Duties & Responsibilities

  • Performs general repairs that do not require a specialized technician
  • Exterior maintenance responsibilities such as lawn care, landscaping and snow/ice removal
  • Assists donors dropping off donated items, and picking-up donated items, as needed
  • Performs routine maintenance on building(s) interior & exterior and grounds, as required
  • Performs preventive building maintenance duties, including plumbing, electrical and carpentry
  • Purchases supplies, equipment, and materials necessary to complete projects
  • Assembles and moves furniture, as needed
  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to the Director of Facilities Management
  • Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition and follows all safety regulations
  • Performs required preventative maintenance on machinery, as needed
  • Performs general cleaning tasks in the facility
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements

Exterior maintenance duties may involve moderate to heavy work in all types of weather. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and/or climbing.  The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s License with at least 5 years driving experience
  • Clean motor vehicle record
  • At least one year of relevant building maintenance experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Delivery experience a plus
