Legal Services Coordinator
Job Description: Legal Services Coordinator
Status: Full Time/Exempt
Reports To: Director of Programs
Position Summary
The Legal Services Coordinator oversees and coordinates legal services for survivors who access Julian Center programs. The Legal Services Coordinator serves as the liaison between clients (survivors) and attorneys/staff at partner agencies. The Coordinator also serves as a representative of The Julian Center when working with partner agencies.
Please note that this is a grant funded position. Evening and weekend hours are required, as necessary. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
Primary Responsibilities
- Coordinates legal intakes with legal partners for all clients referred by The Julian Center advocate team
- Researches and obtains all necessary paperwork related to legal cases (i.e. client release forms, Protective Orders and police reports, etc.)
- Transmits completed case assessment and appropriate documentation to program attorneys for review
- Applies for and maintains Department of Justice Accreditation through the Executive Office for Immigration Review
- Assists program attorneys in correspondence with the client and maintains contact with the client throughout the duration of the case
- Provides support as necessary to legal services clients by attending hearings and assisting with court documentation and filings
- Provides direct service coordination for survivors, as needed
- Establishes and maintains quality communication, meetings, and collaboration with partner agencies
- Facilitates community education events, as requested
- Provides internal training on a semi-annual basis
- Serves as agency representative during community wide pro-bono committee and electronic protective order filing committee meetings
- Manages and ensures grant compliance, data entry and reporting; participates in drafting grant applications
- Attends weekly team meetings to ensure proper communication among advocate teams
- Other duties as assigned by leadership
Skills Needed
- Must be willing to become a DOJ Accredited Representative and maintain active standing
- Basic working knowledge of legal system and terms
- Trauma informed care, client focused, rules reduction knowledge
- Desire to work with clients using a strengths-based, empowerment approach
- Strong cultural competence, including ability to interact successfully with a diverse population
- Understanding, experience, and sensitivity in working with survivors who have experienced trauma, homelessness and related psychosocial matters
- Commitment to quality, equitable treatment and service provisions related to all colleagues and clients regardless of race, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, religion, age or sexual orientation
- Abilities in developing interpersonal relations, communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution
- Awareness and adherence to confidentiality and boundaries
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Attention to detail in record keeping, partner coordination and documentation
- Excellent organizational skills; Ability to prioritize projects and tasks; Ability to handle multiple tasks
- Punctuality and dependability; Ability to work both independently and with a multidisciplinary team
- Commitment to non-violent and cooperative work environment
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and National FBI Fingerprint check
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint as well as data entry skills for the tracking database (ETO)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology or related field
- Three or more years human/social services experience (preferably within domestic violence or criminal justice field)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual – Spanish
- Paralegal certification
- Grant Writing/Reporting Experience
- Experience with Efforts To Outcomes (ETO) or comparable data tracking system
