YES Assistant – Respite Childcare (Part-time)

Reports To: Survivor Services Advocacy Manager

Position Summary

The YES Assistant-Respite Childcare provider is responsible for the supervision of at-risk children who are residing in shelter due to domestic violence in their homes. The children participating in respite care range in age from infancy to 17 years old. All of the children involved in Respite Care are at risk or have been abused or neglected. Many of these children display serious emotional, mental, or behavioral problems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provide care and supervise children during youth and respite activities
  • Facilitates appropriate activities for children participating in the children’s program
  • Enroll and complete intake assessments for parents and children entering into youth programming. Maintain and log records of attendance and complete benchmark assessments on at least a quarterly basis
  • Facilitate mediation of conflict between children, using non-violent methods; De-escalate conflict between children and with parents if necessary
  • Ensure the safety of all children in programming; Report any suspected abuse or neglect to the Youth Program Manager and the Department of Children’s Services Abuse Hotline
  • Supervise volunteers working with children
  • Participate in weekly individual supervision, bi-weekly youth program team meetings, and as directed other organizational meetings or trainings

Required Qualifications

  • One year of college, business, technical or specialized schooling/accredited apprentice training.
  • 1-3 years experience
  • Commitment to non-violent and cooperative working environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bi-Lingual
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education
  • Course work in Early Childhood Development or related subject areas
